Since every influencer in the goalie world has ranted and raved about Lefevre designed CCM & True 580 gloves, the market has boomed and Bauer finally released what was once a pro only option 580 glove. Realistically this is a clone of the Lefevre designed 580 90 degree break glove and you can see that with the tee closure and the tee design itself, there obviously are some changes like the cuff shape and different materials used, but the Bauer Vapor 90 glove that was released with the Hyperlite 2 line of goalie gear will feel pretty similar to the Lefevre designed glove everyone raves about.
Thanks to Just Hockey (affiliate link) for lending me one of their Bauer Supreme Shadow set including this Vapor 90 catching glove! Reviews and testing of the Bauer Shadow pads and blocker will also be available! Without Just Hockey’s (affiliate link) help these reviews and this content wouldn’t have happened. So make sure you check them our for your hockey equipment needs and let them know you came from Hockey Reviews!
I have never been one of the people to promote the 580 style of glove as the greatest invention since butterfly pads, but I also understand break angles and pocket locations are completely personal preference… so it makes sense every brand is coming out with their own version of this break angle. The Bauer Vapor 90 specifically has all of the traditional design elements from the Lefevre (now made with True) gloves including the overlapping tee design and the puck seal issues on the ice.

While I don’t think the Bauer Vapor 90 glove moves the needle and does anything better than other brands, I can understand wanting to buy one of these to match the graphics of a custom Bauer set or a Digiprint design. But I would still recommend people look at the Canadian made True 580 and see if they can match colours close to what a custom Bauer set would look like if you are dead set on the Bauer pads and blocker. The Lefevre made True gloves feel like they are a step above in quality and construction, especially with the higher quality and more textured Suregrip material in the palm.
Once again huge thanks to Just Hockey (affiliate link), who made this review possible. Please be sure to let them know you appreciate these reviews and want to see more of them!
While I also hate to promote my other things, it has become evident to me it is important to get a viewer base that will help me continue doing reviews like this (I can’t afford to always buy new equipment!).
