Vaughn Velocity V10 Pro Carbon goalie pads review

Thanks to Just Hockey I was able to take a look at the Vaughn Velocity V10 Pro Carbon goalie pads, test them out, and give them a review.

There is some amazing attention to detail on these pads, as can be seen in the below video. While the V10 Pro Carbon pads have nylon cord through the face of the pad, Vaughn matched up the cord with the graphic colour. Using 2 different colours here ensures the cord doesn’t stick out compared to the colour choices on the graphic.

Vaughn also significantly stiffened up the above the knee break on these pads to ensure the thigh rises help keep pucks out of the net. I tested this with my Boni puck machine, and even though the V10 Pro Carbons are a “softer” style of pad, they performed better than my Vaughn SLR3 “butterfly” style of pads.

You can see the puck machine thigh rise test for the Vaughn V10 Pro Carbon below here and on YouTube.

My biggest complaint about the Vaughn Velocity V10 Pro Carbon pads is how the new boot is extremely shallow and sits completely flat on your skate. While I understand the flatter boot helps with post integration and helps with NHL sizing rules, I feel like the Velocity line of pads should’ve stayed with a more traditional boot design or straight up use the SLR 3 version since it still retained more of a boot channel.

Overall the Vaughn Velocity V10 Pro Carbon pads have incorporated a lot of feedback from modern pro goalies and the changes that have been made are moving towards how goaltending is played today. While the Velocity line was known as one of the softest pads on the ice, the stock settings for these has gotten stiffer to meet the demands of today’s game. With that said, Vaughn is a VERY custom friendly company, so if you still want your softer style of pads (ala Jonathan Quick) you can continue to go down that route and get a pair of pads you are more comfortable with.

Make sure you check out Just Hockey if you are ordering custom goalie gear (Canada and US customers!) and let them know you came from Hockey Reviews!

You can watch the Vaughn Velocity V10 Pro Carbon hockey goalie pads review on YouTube where I also compare them against the SLR 3 pads.

While I also hate to promote my other things, it has become evident to me it is important to get a viewer base that will help me continue doing reviews like this (I canโ€™t afford to always buy new equipment!).
